Hi! I’m Toby Davies and I am a freelance web designer and developer. I’ve been working as a web designer since 1998 but I like to think I can still give the “young-uns” a run for their money.
In 1998 I graduated from Swansea Institute of Higher Education, with a BSc Hons in Multimedia, and set off to London in pursuit of my fortune. I didn’t find the streets paved with gold, but I did get a job where I learnt a huge amount about website design, in a very short time, and within 18 months I was heading the development department.
In 1999 I joined a new company, later to become known as Digivate, which rapidly grew and became one of the early innovators in the field of ecommerce. During my time at Digivate I worked on hundreds of interesting and challenging projects for clients including Selfridges, HSS Tool Hire, Richer Sounds, Yves Rocher, Nature’s Best, Actionaid, Andrews Sykes, IMRG and Pure Collection.
So what do I do?
So I’ve told you what I can do but I’m going to be honest, and tell you what I don’t do.
I’m not an SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) or CRO (Conversion Rate Optimisation) wizard. If you need advice about online or email marketing strategy, or want help analysing your website’s performance, there are people out there who know far more about these things than I do. Despite having a good eye for design, I don’t think I’ve ever taken a good photo in my life and, although I dabble in back-end development, I don’t claim to be programming whizz-kid.
The good news is that I have a network of contacts, who do have these skills, and I know that they deliver great results.
